On 12 and 13th of September, 2017, the DML, KIU, moderated, hosted, facilitated and anchored the first two days national seminar on “POSSIBILITIES OF DOCUMENTATION AND PRESERVATION OF NATIVE TONGUES THROUGH RESEARCH, PUBLICATION, PROPAGATION, COMPILATION AND EDUCATION” for the provincial government of Gilgit-Baltistan, executed through its Department of Tourism and Culture and Education.
The national conference was a precursor of the Provincial Government of GB’s commitment to found an academy of Preservation and Documentation of Native tongues. The two days’ seminar was attended by His Excellency Ch. Birjees Tahir, Federal Minister for Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, Hafiz Hafeez-ur-Rehman, Chief Minister GB, Dr. Kazim Niaz, Chief Secretary GB, Mr. Sabir Ahmed, IGP, Gilgit-Baltistan and other dignitaries as Chief-Guests. The Seminar was presided over by Dr. Khalil Ahmed, VC, KIU.
In the first session, the chairpersons of Language Academies of all provinces and Islamabad gave presentations on the evolution and development of their academies. Among them were, Mr. Salahuddin Mengal, Chairman, Brahvi Academy Quetta, Miss Fozia Mansoor, DML, KIU, Mr. Ameer Haider, Training Officer, Forum for Language Initiatives Islamabad, Dr. Abasin Yousaf Zai, Chairman, Department of Pashto, University of Peshawar; Dr. Nasrullah Jan Wazir, Chairman, Academy of Pashto, Islamia College University, Peshawar: Dr. Sughra Sadaf, DG, Punjab Institute of Language, Art and Culture, PILAC, Lahore, Dr. Fozia Saeed, DG, Lok Virsa Islamabad, Dr. Abdul Wajid, Assistant Prof. Department of Pakistani Languages and Literature, AIOU and Director National Book Foundation, and many more. The session was hosted by Mr. Syed Ziaullah Shah, lecturer, DML.
The provincial government expressed its gratitude and felicitated the efforts and facilitation of KIU through Chief Secretary GB to VC KIU.
